THIS COIN HAS TWO SIDES
OK, it’s just a metaphor. This business of writing about design has two sides: a head and a tail, or perhaps more correctly, a head bit and a heart bit.
The head is the objective, logical discourse on design. The tail is the opposite side: the subjective, alternative discourse. I am being pulled in two directions at the moment. One is this website, which is where I say things that tend to make sense, more or less. The other is the project site I have just launched called The Serpent. The Serpent allows me to say things I can’t say on this site - strange and unexpected things, confusing or dumb things. Things from the heart, not the head. The Serpent is permission to say the otherwise unsayable.
